Church of Our Lady, Damme
The oldest part, between the tower and the present-day church, dates back to 1225. The present church was built in the 14th century because of the increase in the population. In 1725 the nave, the aisles and the transept were pulled down. The ruined spire was also pulled down. At the top of the 43 m high tower tourists can enjoy a marvellous view. Inside the church gothic statues of the apostles can be seen in the nave. There are also baroque altars and confessionals. The miraculous Holy Cross is worshipped in the church. The tombstone of Jacob van Maerlant was regarded as Tijl Uilenspiegel's until the 17th century.
Church of Saint-Jacob-the-Superior, Hoeke
The church dates from the end of the 13th century, when Hoeke was the centre of the German trade in the Zwin. The charming one-naved church has a barrel-vault.
On the outside, you can see the former "schettekot".
Church of the Holy Trinity and Saint-Christian, Lapscheure
When in 1640 because of an inundation the parish church had become unreachable, a new church was built in the polder Saint-Job. The church in renaissance style has an east tower which is very exceptionnal in this region.
Church of Saint-Denis, Moerkerke
The brick neogothic church dates from 1867-1869 and replaces an older church-building. This cruciform church with a principal choir and two side-chapels, a cross nave and a west tower.
Church of Saint-Kwinten, Oostkerke
The church has a monumental early gothic west tower with a 17th century nave. After the demoltion during the Second World War, the church had been reconstructed in an exact way under the management of architect Luc Viérin.
Church of Saint-Martin, Sijsele
This neogothic church (1890-1892) was constructed under the management of the architect Verbeke. The church replaces the medieval Roman church.
Church of Saint-Rita of Cascia, Sint-Rita
The church is dedicated to Saint-Rita of Cascia and was built by the residents of the quarter and the priest-joiner Kamiel Ackaert between 1975 and 1978.
Church of Our-Lady-Birth and Church of the Saint-Philip, Vivenkapelle
The neogothic parish church is a project of baron Jean-Baptiste de Béthune, executed in
1861-1867. The brick architecture is inspired by the 14th century Gothicism.
